Hockey - Stories From the Sled: An accompaniment to The Sled Files podcast about differently-abled hockey players (Advancing Inclusion in Our Society)

Description

Book Synopsis: This book contains seven unique stories, each uncovering a different aspect of the sport of sled hockey told from the perspective of players, coaches, executives, family members, and even an NHL legend. For those unfamiliar with sled hockey, it is a sport that enables athletes with a physical disability to experience the game of ice hockey with the same rules and action. Sled hockey has quickly become one of the most popular sports in the Paralympic Games and for those involved, whether recreationally or competitively, it serves as an important activity that provides the opportunity to develop life-long friendships and be part of a vibrant and supportive community. This book contains transcripts of Season One of The Sled Files podcast, my impressions as the host, and countless pictures to immerse the reader in the world of this sport. Individuals featured within the chapters are part of an organization called Long Island Sled Hockey, Inc., a non-profit organization that fields a nationally acclaimed sled hockey program called the Long Island RoughRiders. Faith Lee is a 17-year-old high school student who is on a mission to provide members of the Long Island RoughRiders family a platform to share their stories. On Saturday mornings, Faith can be seen on the ice helping the team with drills, while at the same time thinking about ways to increase the exposure of this incredible organization— which led Faith to create The Sled Files podcast. After two successful seasons, Faith wrote this book as a complement to her well-received podcast.
